The head section is designed and ruggedly constructed to withstand the torque of drive components, maintain alignment and to aid in maintenance. We fabricate the lower portion from 10 GA steel and the hood from 12 GA steel with a pressure relief door on the top of the leg as a standard feature. We provide standard A.R. steel liners and offer additional optional liners to extend service life (see options page). The head pulley is crowned, lagged and mounted on the head shaft with tapered bushings to eliminate side movement. We select bearings to handle severe service with roller bearings standard on larger sizes and provide jack-bolts under the head shaft bearings on all models to allow ease in field shimming for proper belt tracking.

The standard head section comes with one grated hinged door in the hood section, which can be placed on either side of the head for inspection; most sizes have a pressure relief vent located on top of the hood. There are two rubber plugs that are used to inspect the pulley lagging. Always follow proper lock out tag out procedures before removing any doors or plugs.

Heavy 7 or 10 GA bolted steel construction boot provides a solid base with heavier gauges available (model and application determines material gauge). We include many standard features to insure continued ease in operation and maintenance. Proper belt tension is easily maintained with plated take-up screws and solid brass take-up nuts. Standard crowned boot pulleys are available in either drum or wing style. Cut-outs are located on both up and down sides with a boot pocket installed on the up side and bolted cover plate on the down side as standard. Clean-out doors on both ends of the boots are also standard features.

Most materials should be fed into the up side. Light and bulky materials give better cup fill when fed on the down side. Our up side inlet location insures that material enters the cups at or above the pulley centerline.

Our trunking provides superb dust tight and weather tight protection with continuous jig welded 12 or 10 GA steel construction with heavier gauges available (material gauge depends on model and application). Trunking is standard in 10 foot lengths with alignment ties provided for each joint. All trunking seams are butt welded and end flanges are heavy flat bar so no overlapping metal parts will trap corrosive moisture or product.

Rubber belt with vented plastic cups is standard on Schlagel legs. Special belting such as PVC, high temperature or food grade belt is available on request as are steel cast, or nylon cups in non-vented or other venting patterns. Material type, feeding arrangement, head pulley diameter and belt speed, along with many other more subtle factors, affect the loading and discharge characteristics of bucket elevator cups and the performance of your leg.

Standard drives are shaft mounted gear reducers with backstop. Dual drives are available for very high horse power requirements. When furnished with our legs, drives are complete with sheaves, belts and belt guards. We can also supply motors. Unless otherwise specified, drives are supplied for right hand mounting and Class II service.

The UniMAX bucket elevator is a high capacity centrifugal discharge elevator engineered to meet the most strict industry standards. The elevator head, boot, and intermediate sections have been designed with adequate space for buckets and belt to travel un-impeded throughout the system. Bucket spacing and belt speeds follow recommendations and standards set forth by industry leaders. UniMAX bucket elevators are designed with cleanliness in mind by eliminating shelves for material to build up in the head, inspection doors, vents, access and boot section. The casings were also designed for afterthought installation of hazardous monitoring equipment to eliminate cutting and grinding on newly purchased elevators.

Safety is priority UniMAX elevators are built with the provisions to install hazardous monitoring equipment. The boot and head casings have removable covers to install belt alignment sensors and boot shafts are drilled and tapped for speed sensors. The boot bearing guards offer a take up location indicator and knock outs to access grease zerks and installation of bearing temperature sensors.

The UniMAX head has been designed with a crowned drum pulley with slide lagging. Inspection doors are included for inspecting the buckets, belt, deflector pad, and discharge throat. Incorporated are jack bolts to assist with aligning the bearings. Lifting eyes are contained in the lower head, up-leg and down-leg casings for rigging and maintenance. Removable covers for installation of belt alignment sensors are standard.

The intermediate section is constructed with seam welded 12-gauge trunking built in a jig. An optional 10-gauge upgrade for heavier construction is also offered. Included is an access section for easy maintenance of buckets and belts.

We offer standard rubber belting with PVC, high temp, and food grade options are available upon request. HDPE Buckets come standard with all units but optional carbon steel, stainless steel, nylon, and urethane buckets are available as well. Buckets may be vented when the application requires it.

UniMAX elevators offer two different drive packages all rated for Class II Service and are mounted on the right hand side when looking into the hopper. When purchased with a new elevator, the #2 drive package includes a shaft mounted reducer, v-belts, sheaves, v-belt guards and optional internal backstop. The #5 drive package includes a right hand mounted helical bevel gearbox with internal backstop and guards. Additional options for drive packages include motors, creep drives and dual drives.

The UniMAX Boot has a solid welded design for durability. Included are removable covers for installation of belt alignment sensors and for the installation of a shovel pocket. The boot shaft is drilled and tapped on both sides for installation of speed sensors.

Inclined conveyors are commonly found at mines, quarries, cement and steel works. Most of them tend to be extremely long and the weight of material on them at any one time can be enormous. If the drive stalls and the conveyor back-drives then it will accelerate due to gravity until all the load on the conveyor has been dumped at the bottom.

If a fully loaded inclined conveyor runs backwards then it will tend to run much faster than it runs forward. This isn't a problem for the conveyor and the bearings but it can be catastrophic for the components on the other side of the gearbox. The out of control conveyor would drive the gearbox the wrong way, changing its speed reducing role to one of a speed amplifier.

This would overload the components in the drive train that would have been sized for normal operating conditions when the conveyor runs forward. If a fluid coupling is fitted, to provide a soft start for the conveyor, its aluminium casing would be put under massive centrifugal loads, sufficient to make the whole thing explode like a bomb, spreading shrapnel and hot hydraulic oil everywhere.

To prevent this from happening a Renold SH Sprag Clutch Holdback is positioned on the end of the conveyor headshaft. If the drive fails or is stopped when the conveyor is loaded the SH Sprag Clutch Holdback instantaneously prevents any runback. This is due to the high quality sprag elements of the clutch being in constant contact at all times with the inner and outer races of the clutch element of the holdback. It prevents damage to plant and equipment, the resultant downtime that would follow, and any potential accident risk to personnel.

According to the characteristics of materials and different loading and discharging methods, buckets are often made into three types: deep bucket, shallow bucket and sharp-angled bucket with the guide slot.
