steelmaking

It is difficult for us in this modern world, to spend one day without a car, bus, refrigerator or elevator. Our everyday life, like that of thousands of others around the world, owes a great deal to steel and steel mills.

We work in the steel market through joint ventures, like with the ThyssenKrupp Companhia Siderrgica do Atlntico (TKCSA) plant. Located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it is one of the biggest and most modern steel mills in the world.

levoxx | design build run | steel mill in brazil: supply of expertise

In detail we provided expertise through more than 80 specialists for a duration of seven years for areas such as the sites port, coke plant, sinter plant, blast furnace including host blast system, granulation, gas cleaning and dedusting and steel mill (melt shop, caster and slab yard) along with the plants piping and conveying.

At that time, experienced welders were a scarce resource. To solve this problem, we supplied 40 highly skilled welders for 24 months and developed an on site training center educating welder on the basis of ASME that finally welded the blast furnace steel jacket and the hot stove, for example.

Further, our colleagues developed the entire blast furnace erection concept by means of the degree of preassembly, weights, dimensions, load cases and erection methodologies. Without any progress on site, we had to develop a transportation and lifting concept incorporating crane positions for the entire project duration especially important since the vulnerable ground conditions had to be supported by intensive piling activities that were defined on the basis of the resulting pressures as a result of lifting and transportation.

our history csp

Founded in 2008, Companhia Siderrgica do Pecm (CSP) is a bi-national joint venture between Brazilian Vale (50% shares), one of the worlds largest iron ore mining companies, and South Koreans Dongkuk (30%), the worlds largest steel slabs buyer, and Posco (20%), the worlds fourth largest steel company and the largest in Korea. With an investment of U$ 5.4 billion, CSP is the first integrated steel mill of the Northeast, and the 30th in Brazil.

The mill, one of the most advanced in Brazil and worldwide, started producing steel slabs in June 2016. Production is focused on high quality rolled steel products for the naval, oil & gas, automotive, and construction industries. This first stage of the project has an installed capacity of 3 million tons of steel slabs/year.

CSP is a modern steel company that uses clean, state-of-the-art technology and whose guidelines are based on sustainability in of its all aspects environmental, social, and economic. The company also made a commitment to provide opportunities for as many Cear-born professionals as possible. In this regard, Cear natives already make up approximately 70% of our staff.
